From: Mohammed Rafiq Lodhia
To: My Fellow Muslims

My Dear Fellow Muslims,

As-Salaam Alay-Kum

“I am a Muslim and this thought fills me with pride. The traditions of Islam during its career of thirteen centuries go to form my heritage. I am not willing to give up an iota of this portion. Islamic education, Islamic history, Islamic arts, Islamic sciences and Islamic culture constitute the elements of my wealth, and as a Muslim, it is my duty to preserve it. Being a Muslim, I have a special position in cultural and religious circle, and I cannot bear that anyone should interfere in this inner sanctum of my soul.” So spoke a great Indian freedom fighter and the renowned Muslim scholar, named Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Today, many of our brothers and sisters yearn to taste freedom in Islamic countries, being deprived of it, not because of any imperialist or Zionists plots and conspiracies, but because of being subjugated by the Checklist of Enemies, which as a sensitive Muslim, I find it imperative to identify to my fellow Muslims. They are as follows:

1. The enemy number one (within the Muslim Ummah) are
our political leaders who conveniently ignore the inauguration
speech of the first Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Abu Bakr (May Allah
Be Pleased With Him) that reads, “O people, I have been given
authority over you, and I am not the best of you. If I do well, help
me; and if I do wrong, set me right. Sincere regard for truth is
loyalty and disregard for truth is treachery. The weak amongst
you shall be strong with me until I have secured his rights, if Allah
will; and the strongest amongst you shall be weak with me until
I have wrested from him the right of others, if Allah will. Obey me
as long as I obey Allah and His Messenger (Prophet Muhammad
– Peace Be Upon Him). But if I disobey God and His Messenger,
ye owe me no obedience. Arise for your prayer, Allah have mercy
on you.”

“Knowingly” fully well the weaknesses of our political leaders, do
we, the individuals of the Muslim Ummah, also not share some of
the burden of the blame, by remaining passive and indifferent to
the ruling pattern and repressive methods of these totally self-
centered politicians? If we as Muslims claim to the world that Islam
is the greatest exponent of individual human rights and freedom,
then we must sincerely act on the most fundamental message of
Surah Thunder, wherein, it has been exhorted that, “Allah will
not change the condition of a people until they change
what is in their hearts. Surah: Al-Ra’d (Thunder) –
Chapter: 13 – Verse: 11

2. The enemy number two are our religious leaders, who out of
sheer ignorance and arrogance deprive an ordinary Muslim from
his/her inherent right to “think and reflect” on the commandments
spelled out in our Holy Quran with their own minds, by instilling
rigid dogma and bigotry, thereby, making them turn into a Muslim
Ummah consisting of “thoughtless devotees.

“Willfully” we have never questioned the rigid dogmas. Muslim
Ummah cannot sustain itself unless it liberates itself from the
clutches of bigoted dogmas and allow its mind to reflect to interpret
the Quranic injunctions in accordance with the demands of the
present times. Islam is a dynamic religion meant to survive until
the doom’s day, therefore, let’s grasp this fact firmly to change
our thinking before it is too late. Unfortunately, even after 1,400
years we still have not been able to comprehend the Quranic
injunction, “They take their priests and their anchorites to
be their lords in derogation of Allah. Surah: Al-Tawbah
– Chapter: 9 – Verse: 31

3. The over-all enemies are the terrorists, the dictators and the
tyrants who are absolutely corrupt to the core and who have
continuously engaged themselves in the art of “Holy Terror” with
their usual “scorched earth” tactics coupled with employing secret
police and informers to terrorize ordinary Muslims and the whole
of mankind. “Deliberately” most of the misguided ones in the Muslim
Ummah have considered these “over-all enemies” as our heroes
without paying heed to the Holy Quran which sometimes speak of
men who refuse to follow the right path and insist on supporting the
evil-mongers, and have hardened there in. Certainly by now after
all the humiliation and disgrace suffered, we the Muslim Ummah
should finally pay heed to Almighty Allah’s warning, “They have
minds, but reflect not; they have eyes, but see not; they
have ears, but hear not. Surah: Al-A’raf – Chapter: 7 –
Verse: 179

We the Muslims have no reason to be proud of our sojourn on earth for we have done little good to one another. The mind that Al-Qu’ran should build is nowhere in display, except in hardly a few handful of Muslim scholars and journalists who being blessed with the courage have on numerous occasions spoken out on behalf of the Muslim Ummah against the recent wave of international terrorism. Two such articles are, one by Zainab A. Suwajj titled, “Iraqi People Yearn To Taste Freedom Again,” and the other by Fareed Zakaria titled, “Looking At The Bright Side,” which are indeed worthy of our attention.

I say, enough of repression and terror, as it is high time to confront the reality of the turmoil that is taking place within the Islamic world. There is no better time than now for all ordinary Muslims from all walks of life to go through the soul-searching period, just as my own inner sanctum of soul was very deeply disturbed on reading that 650 pages of our Holy Qur’an have been written with a famous Iraqi tyrant’s blood. If the repression and misguided propaganda stunt continues, and if we the Muslim Ummah keeps on honoring the “Demagogues, then we can be assured that such a state of affairs will trigger the wrath of Almighty Allah to such an extent that the final end of things can well be described based on Surah: Al-Rum (The Romans) translated by Maulana Wahuddudin Khan as follows:

Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied
the signs of God, and they derided them.

God originates the creation, and shall repeat it, then to Him you
shall be returned. On the Day the Hour arrives, the guilty will be
struck dumb with despair, and they will have no intercessors among
those partners whom they ascribed to God. They will deny those

When the Last Hour dawns – on that Day they will be sorted out:
those who believed and did good deeds will rejoice in the Garden,
and as for those who denied the truth and belied Our signs and
the meeting in the Hereafter – they shall be brought to the torment.

Surah: Al-Rum (The Romans) – Chapter: 30 – Verses: 10 – 16

For all those of my fellow brothers and sisters who are totally focused on the three words, “It’s About Oil, should immediately come to grip with the truth that the Muslims role on earth is to understand Qur’anic laws and to conform to them or else the consequences will prove harmful and disastrous. “The point to note here,” cautions Dr. Syed Abdul Latif, “is that the initiative for movement and reform should lie with man. That is the law – His Will.” The very Qur’anic commandment which unequivocally states, “Whatever mishap befalleth you is nothing but the result of what your own hands have wrought. Surah: Al-Shura (Mutual Consultation) – Chapter: 42 – Verse: 30

Ever mindful of the Qur’anic verses, and at the same time, also cannot even imagine to give up an iota of my Islamic heritage, however, I do wholeheartedly tend to agree with Thomas Jefferson’s personal motto, “Rebellion To Tyrants Is Obedience To God, and with such a spirit, I wish that, my fellow Muslims will exercise their “sense of balance,” by steering the Muslim Ummah not to neglect the duty to check “evil” in time, and most importantly, to set the course for our children to be armed with “The Pens” and not with “The Guns. Let’s not ever forget that our great religion of Islam has been kidnapped and hijacked by a “Checklist of Enemies, who flourish right in our midst.

Kidnapped Nation – Welcome To Pakistan

Finally, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, while our beloved brothers and sisters from all part of Islamic countries have joyously gathered around bayt-Allah, the House of Allah, let’s hope that as they circle “The Kabbah” as part of the pilgrimage rituals; the entire Muslim Ummah should be aware that “The Cycle of Life” continues and that we have to learn how to live in balance and harmony with our fellow human beings along with all living things, “excluding” terrorists and tyrants.

May Almighty Allah bless all of you and instill the wisdom of Qur’an which clearly reminds us of “life” as expressed in our daily prayers, “Lord give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from Hell-Fire. Surah: Al-Baqarah (The Heifer) Chapter: 2 – Verse: 201. Simply put,IT’S ABOUT LIFE,” and after taking care of our immediate family members and relatives, it is our moral duty to continually fight, “for the defense of the oppressed and the helpless so that they may be released from the clutches of tyranny. Surah: Al-Nisa’ (Women) – Chapter: 4 – Verse: 75.

Eid-ul-Adha Mubarak to you and all your family members.

Very sincerely yours,

Mohammed Rafiq Lodhia

LET THE MUSLIMS REFLECT. The world is marching towards a democratic order of life for all mankind – a purpose so dear to the Qur’an. It has begun, notwithstanding the impediments blocking the way, to socialize the good things of the earth – another purpose sponsored by the Qur’an. The world of science is unraveling for man the hidden forces of nature with intensive avidity and pressing them into his service – a crying call issuing forth and reverberating from every corner of the Qur’an. There should, therefore, be no difficulty for Muslim countries in falling into line with these leading trends of the modern world. Should they do so with little reference to their spiritual moorings or just to advance their own interests unmindful of the world purpose of the Qur’an, the well-being of all humanity, they will go the way the rest of the world are going and share the consequences. If, on the other hand, they should cultivate on the group plane, the sense of God on which the Qur’an lays it supreme stress as the mainspring of all life sustaining activity, even as they have to do on the individual plane, in other words, lay even emphasis on huquq Allah and huquq-an-nas, to themselves and obligations to mankind, they may still develop into an ummatan wasata, and serve as a balancing factor between the exaggerated opposites of the world of today.

HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION is allowed, even advocated in the Qur’an, under the category of defending the oppressed. However, it must be done within the restrictions specified in the Qu’ran.

In intervening, it is quite permissible to co-operate with non-Muslims, under the proviso:

Co-operate in what is good and pious and do not co-operate in what is
sinful and aggression.
