My Dear Sharmeen,

As-Salaam Alay-Kum

Once upon a time, your beloved father, Shaikh Muhammad Obaid (May Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace), remarked as follows:

“Memon Bhai, Agar Urdu Naheen Aati To Oos Ki Taang To Muth Torho. Let me correct your song, “BAREY BAREY GOON” NOT “GOOM,” AND THE WORD IS “GHABRAAE” NOT “KHABRAE.”

Reflecting over the word “Ghabraae” made me think about your recent statement: “I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable.” Why not? I am with you all the way. I will always applaud your noble deeds, which you are doing as a distinguished Pakistani activist.

Indeed, it is important to look into the eyes of men and remind them of one of the greatest humanitarian poet, Sahir Ludhianvi’s (May Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace) outstanding poem, AURAT NE JANAM DIYA MARDO KO. The lyrics of a song, which was beautifully sung by Lata Mangeshkar is as follows:

Tulati Hai Kahi Dinaro Me, Bikti Hai Kahi Bazaro Me
Nangi Nachavai Jati Hai, Aiyyasho Ke Darbaro Me
Ye Vo Beizzat Chiz Hai Jo, Bat Jati Hai Izzatdaro Me
Aurat Ne Janam Diya Mardo Ko

Mardo Ke Liye Har Zulm Rava, Aurat Ke Liye Rona Bhi Khata
Mardo Ke Liye Lakho Seje, Aurat Ke Liye Bas Ek Chita
Mardo Ke Liye Har Aish Ka Haq, Aurat Ke Liye Jina Bhi Saza
Aurat Ne Janam Diya Mardo Ko

Jin Hotho Ne Inko Pyar Kiya, Un Hotho Ka Vyapar Kiya
Jis Kokh Me Inka Jism Dhala, Us Kokh Ka Karobar Kiya
Jis Tan Se Uge Kopal Ban Kar, Us Tan Ko Zalil-o-Khar Kiya
Aurat Ne Janam Diya Mardo Ko

Mardo Ne Banayi Jo Rasme, Unko Haq Ka Farmaan Kaha
Aurat Ke Zinda Jalne Ko, Kurbani Aur Balidaan Kaha
Kismat Ke Badle Roti Di, Usko Bhi Ehsaan Kaha
Aurat Ne Janam Diya Mardo Ko

(If Muslim men having a grasp of Urdu language cannot cry while listening this song, then I have to bluntly say, Laanat Hai Sab Musalmaan Mard Par.)

It is shocking to realize that countless millions of Muslim men hailing from the Indian subcontinent born during 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, simply have no clue about the depth of Sahir’s poem about “Womenhood. It is truly disheartening to know that they all have collectively abandoned such a rich humanitarian tradition of an Indian Muslim culture.

One old evergreen song might help awaken the polluted minds of “Muslim Male Chauvinists, which was penned by another great Indian Urdu poet, Shakeel Badayuni and sung by Mohammed Rafi (May Almighty Allah rest these two great and humble Muslim souls in peace).

Pyaar Ka Hove Jhagada, Ya Business Ka Ho Ragada
Sab Lafadon Ka Bojh Hate, Jab Pade Haath Ik Tagada

Today, this Memon Bhai has turned from being a veteran salesman to a simple-minded writer and blogger. “Mothers of Humanity” is one of my letters, which will surely enlighten you as well as my fellow Muslims about the humble thoughts of Mohammed Rafiq Lodhia.

Sharmeen, like you rightly pointed out, “We need women as heroes, and as such, always remember the golden words of wisdom of your father, If you speak the truth, I will stand with you and so will the world.

May Almighty Allah bless you in your sincere dedication to improve the dignity of Muslim women in the country of Pakistan.

Affectionately yours,

Mohammed Rafiq Lodhia
